ITS has been in the business of providing storage services for several years. Until recently, ITS only offered one type of storage solution and that was our high end enterprise storage subsystem called the “Shark”.

Today, we proudly announce that we offer mid-tier fibre channel and SATA storage for our customers that are in one of our co-located or hosting shared environments at the Salt Lake City data center.

This adds up to significant costs savings to our customers. Our high end “Shark” disk sells for .005 per mb/per month and our mid-tier FC disk sells for .0035 per mb/per month, while the SATA disk sells for .0025 per mb/per month.

This gives our customers the ability to choose which environment they want to store their data in. Some agencies may feel they need ready access to their data which may require the high availability of the Shark, while others may choose to store their data on a reliable storage media such as the mid-tier and at the same time reduce their costs.

Implementing mid-tier storage is the first step in accomplishing our 3-year strategic plan to provide customers with enterprise class storage solutions, based on industry best practices, at an affordable price.

Our next step will be to implement storage virtualization which will enable us to offer additional storage services such as large numbers of snapshots, Network Attached Storage (NAS), iSCSI, remote replication for offsite storage, and no-impact data migration in addition to further reducing customer storage costs.

With mid-tier storage in place and once virtualization is implemented, ITS will be positioned to implement information lifecycle management (ILM). This will be a significant enhancement for our customers. This will enable us to implement automated policy-based storage. This means that a customer can choose high availability Shark storage initially and by setting up policies associated with their data, have that data automatically migrated to mid-tier storage and eventually off to tape where it can be stored for long time archival as the need to access that data diminishes with time.
