DTS Mainframe Tape Storage provides State agencies with low cost storage space for mainframe applications. This tape storage can be used for offline data storage or for data backups. The storage environment consists of tape drives housed in StorageTek's PowderHorn® tape silos. In addition, DTS uses a StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager® to improve performance and maximize capacity.

Allocation and de-allocation of tape space is managed by the customer using JCL. IBM’s Data Facility Data Set Services ® (DFSMSdss) are also available to DTS customers as a tool to backup mainframe disk storage to tape.
